The purchase of Cellar Cars / Top Cars in Woolwich
On April 1st We purchased this company to get a foot in the door in
Woolwich. The benefit of purchasing a company in this area is over
80% of the journeys are going towards our existing circuit. This is
obvious because the river thames is behind. icoming in is sional way
they adepted themselves during this period. This was a stressfull
time and we are now coming out the other side a bigger and better
company.
Open Circuit
It taken me nearly 20 years to acheive this. All drivers can work
in any area. Greenwich, Lee Green Eltham or Sidcup. The codes which
stopped drivers working other areas have been removed leaving the
circuit completly OPEN leaving YOU TO WORK WHERE YOU WANT TO. No
other circuit can offer this and with the new rent structure which
is the same as most of the surviving little local "Job and
office" firms.
Callback and mobile phones.
It is a company policy of Data Cars that all drivers carry a mobile
phone. In todays private hire trade it is impossiable to do the
job effectively without one. When the drivers asked continuously
to have access to the customers telephone numbers to ring customers
to assist in the pick up, we agreed and had the software written.
A small minority of drivers have made the controllers job difficult
because they cannot be bothered to keep the phone in credit. REMEMBER
- IT WILL COST YOU 10 TIMES MORE TO PULL OFF IN TIME AND FUEL.
ID Badges
Data Cars will no longer charge drivers who pay by mastercard or
visa credit/debit cards. This transaction would be preferred on
Wednesdays as Thursdays are too busy. If can call the Eltham Office
on 0870-850 7747 anytime from Wednesday mid day. The controller
will advise you of your balance and once you give him your card
details we will debit your card. You can pick up your rent sheet
from the drivers room rent tray at your convenience.

KNOW YOU PAID.
Insurance payments
Any drivers who wishes to pay insurance weekly by cash into the
Greenwich office please add £5.00 to your premium. However,
if you are paying weekly you are presently being charged £3.00
admin fee you can take this off if you are paying into our insurance
bank account.
Zones
YOU CANNOT PLOT AT THE NEW ELTHAM STATION PLOT UNTIL YOU HAVE TURNED
INTO THE APPROACH. If you want to pick up a job at New Eltham Station
you must first plot "APP NE STN" which is APPROACHING
NEW ELTHAM STATION. This plot confirms you want to take work from
New Eltham Station.
Kevin's appointments and availability
During this licensing process, we ask drivers to telephone the office
staff before attending the Eltham office if you require to see Kevin
for any reason including the late payment of rents on Monday, Tuesday
and Wednesdays.
How to do a download
Please keep this paper, as from time to time we will require to
add new or remove zones/areas to the system you will require "A
DOWNLOAD" This shows you step by step instructions on how to
complete this action.
This takes 10 seconds if carried out correctly. Please follow these
instructions:- Call the controller on voice when you are parked
(at least 1/2 mile away from the Eltham High St office) and ask
"FOR A DOWNLOAD" he will allow for you to switch the set
off and set the system ready.
1). TURN THE RADIO OFF AND THEN BACK ON BY THE ON/OFF SWITCH"
2). ON THE DATA HEAD SCREEN PRESS THE MIDDLE BUTTON MARKED "DATA"
ONCE. YOU WILL THEN SEE ZONES LIKE HIGH ST ETC
3) THIS IS THE IMPORTANT PART "WAIT AND DO NOT TOUCH ANY PART
OF THE DATA HEAD SCREEN INCLUDING THE SCROLLER FOR 20 SECS"
4) AFTER 20 SECS TURN THE SCROLLER, THIS SHOULD REVEAL THE NEW ZONES.
Overcharging, complaints and the our duty as a Priavte Hire Operator.
Reports from customers about overcharging has gone down since I
bought it to light in the April Newletter. However, as a Licenced
London Private Hire Operaator, Data Cars have to deal with overcharging.
From the drivers point of view this is the best way. As from November
1 2004. Any serious complaints ctober we had a spell of customers
reporting overcharging by a small minority of drivers. Fortunately
we dealt with drivers concerned with verbal warnings and had to
ask one driver to leave the company. We will continue to monitor
any reports of overcharging to protect you the honest driver, the
company and the customer.
Advertising Campaign, dropping card and TIME RADIO 106.8 FM
We are presently having taks with Time FM to advertise on their
radio station, because of the comapnys size we need to get out to
a wider audience. On November we will commence dropping cards on
areas like Lee and Greenwich as they may have been degleted prior
to the takeover.
The voice channel
PLEASE KEEP OFF THE VOICE CHANNEL UNLESS YOU HAVE A GENUINE REASON.
EVERYTIME YOU CALL UNNECESSARILY YOU TAKE THE OFFICE STAFF AWAY
FROM ANSWERING CALLS WHICH EARNS YOU AND OTHER DRIVERS A LIVING.
PLEASE CHECK ALL THE INFORMATION ON THE SCREEN BEFORE YOU CALL.
A JOB COULD BE LOST WHILST YOU DISCUSS SOMETHING WHICH IS ON YOUR
SCREEN.
"NO SHOWING A JOB"
If you have (1) Used Callback - (2) Telephoned the customer &
Finally (£3) Knock on the customers door you can "NO
SHOW" the job there is no need to call the controller on voice.
