Shooters Hill

Shooters Hill

The historic natutre of place names can be very intreguing perhaps, non more so than Shooters Hill. It is thought during the medieval era archers would use the area to perfect their shooting skills. Later in history the area was said to be the hangout for highway men and the remains of those who’d been excuted. Quite a past which perhaps inspired several mentions in noteable literary works such as, Bram Stoker’s Dracula and H.G. Wells’ The War of the Worlds.

Today Shooters Hill is a leafy suburb with the main centre of attraction a gold course perhaps, where a few ‘bandits’ still play.
